The bonding that Iodine has is covalent bonding. That means it shares its electrons with another element so that they both have a full outside layer. Iodine has 7 electrons on the last layer so I'm going to pair it with another iodine. So what happens is you have 2 Iodine lewis dot diagrams separately. You put them beside each other so that the side that has 1 on it are facing each other. You put those two dots square in the middle of the diagrams. Once you do this because they both put one in they are now sharing and if they each have 6 and are sharing 2 then they have 8 if they stay together. When they have 8 that is a full layer on the outside and that was the goal.
